How it all started?

Greta was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome at much younger age. This made her worry and care for things, most people tend to forget/ignore.

I remember when I was younger, and in school, our teachers showed us films of plastic in the ocean, starving polar bears and so on. I cried through all the movies. My classmates were concerned when they watched the film, but when it stopped, they started thinking about other things. I couldn’t do that. Those pictures were stuck in my head.”

‘Friday’s for Future’

That’s how Greta began her worldwide movement. Every Friday no matter how the weather panned out, she decided to protest against climate change till the Swedish elections.

Greta decided to stand up and make a difference, even when she learnt she had to do it by herself.

As days passed by, more people joined her on her journey.

In the U.S. alone, some 100,000 young people were participating in at least 400 separate protests in all 50 states,

“It’s amazing,” she says. “It’s more than 71 countries and more than 700 places, and counting. It’s increasing very much now, and that’s very, very fun.”

There are multiple cities participating in the movement, with schools and student groups from metropolitans like Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Gurugram, to smaller cities like Bhavnagar in Gujarat, Ambikapur in Chhattisgarh, and Udaipur in Rajasthan to villages in Bihar, voicing their concern over the planet’s fate.

Nothing makes me happier seeing this movement reach India .

It perfectly describes our inaction towards climate change focusing on things that really won’t make a difference just like how we studied the Pythagoras Theorem. I am still yet to use that in life.

Wondering what’s she up to now and how she yet again managed to inspire me :
